Van Dyk Health Care CEO Selected as a Joe Warner Award recipient

RIDGEWOOD, NJ (June 15, 2015) – The American Health Care Association & National Center for Assisted Living has named Van Dyk Health Care President & CEO Bob Van Dyk a recipient of the Joe Warner Award for Patient Advocacy, which will be presented today at the 2015 AHCA/NCAL Congressional Briefing at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.

“With all the discussion in Washington on post-acute and skilled care, giving patients a voice is absolutely critical,” Van Dyk said. “The Joe Warner Award serves as a reminder to everyone in our industry that we have an unwavering responsibility to care for our patients as we would for our own family.”

This year’s recipients of the Joe Warner Award, which recognizes outstanding leadership on patient advocacy issues, include Van Dyk, Robin Hillier and Barry Lazarus.

Van Dyk, a former chairman of the AHCA and NCAL, has remained a nationally recognized leader and visionary in long-term care. He served on the Executive Committee and Board of Governors of both associations, helping to reshape public perception and monitor congressional legislation and regulatory activity.

Van Dyk has actively collaborated with colleagues in post-acute, skilled nursing and assisted living in order to adapt their business models to comply with the Affordable Care Act.

“If Washington wants the ACA to be sustainable, then it needs a strong and healthy partnership with the post-acute sector,” Van Dyk added. “Hospitals are shortening stays and transferring less-stable patients to post-acute settings. We need to redirect federal spending needs to accommodate these patients in order to improve outcomes and reduce re-hospitalization.”

Van Dyk was selected to serve on the White House Conference on Aging in Washington DC, as well as the Policy Committee that wrote regulations for assisted living in New Jersey.

Registration for the AHCA/NCAL Congressional Briefing is free and open to all members and Associate Business Members. Over 400 advocates attended last year’s conference, which included visits to Capitol Hill to speak with Congressional members and their staffs.
